| Have you ever
seen boat propellers after even an "ever so gentle"
contact with anything other than water? Like a rock, a piece
of wood, or a discarded nylon piece of rope? The boat props
blades simply knarl, bend, break and curl up. They then cause
the engine and entire craft to shake rattle and vibrate or may
not turn at all. This in turn causes stress and strain on
gears, shafts and all other moving parts that can break and
cost many hundreds or thousands of dollars to also repair or
replace. This can also leave you stranded miles from safety
under what can be life threatening conditions.
This can all be easily avoided by carrying a spare
propeller and the tools to exchange a damaged prop with a
spare. A minimum investment in a spare propeller protects you
against further significant damage and greatly enhances your
safety and ability to get to port when your propeller is
damaged. You don't drive your car without a spare tire--why
would you even think about driving your boat without spare
boat propellers?
